37.4 miles/65 odd km from the start we have checked in our hotel for the night in Breisach. Thank Gott we have left Weil am Rhein behind us….what a shithole!!!!!! Full of boy racers burning up the High Street in their Mercedes and BMWs wearing caps and testing one hand on top of the steering wheel. If that noise wasn’t enough the peace was shattered by screaming kids and very little alcohol in sight 🤣

Day 2 accomplished 👍🏻
Today our route took us mostly along the Rhein with strong headwinds but occasionally we got some rest bite cycling through woods. The scenery (main river plus lots of overspill ponds) reminded me of Florida. We were expecting alligators at any moment!! The temperature soared to 28 degrees so we were glad if the wind. My head changed a few shades of red however!
David: Day 4: We enjoyed much countryside today and little Rhine as we cut the corners ending up in Ludwigshafen. Today’s stint was shorter but I appreciated that as my bum is really hurting!! I now have some empathy for chimpanzees!!☺️😂 🤣. Also it bought me some time to give the bikes a wash. Nice day overall 😊

Have completed stage 6 of our bike tour and have arrived in Bacharach, a beautiful old town on the banks of the Rhine. We are surrounded by vineyards on the steep banks.

Etappe 7: We were going like the clappers today so overshot Koblenz by around 30km to make up for the lost day. We’re staying in a place called Bad Breisig on the Rhein. Not the best location but the Hof’s staff are very friendly and we can see the Rhein out of our window if we lean out to the point of falling out!

There are 3 arches to the bridge and in each section there are 100 sections. Love locks are on both sides and in each section there are, as a conservative estimate, 900 love padlocks.
A rough calculation comes up with 630,000 padlocks!! If each padlock weighs an average of 75g then the total weight of all the padlocks is 47.4 tons! That’s 2/3 the weight of the space shuttle.
We really don’t want this adventure to end. When we get to Duisburg tomorrow we were thinking of carrying on to Rotterdam instead of turning right to Herne.
